The Spiritual Pride Project is a ministry that hopes to serve as a resource, a discussion forum, a community, and a sounding block. More specifically, we offer a weekend retreat where both sexuality and spirituality are seen as equally valuable gifts from God.
The Spiritual Pride Project was created when one individual began searching for a camp where her child's sexuality and gender identity would be respected, a camp that would foster a positive self-image. She wanted her child to be proud of the person she was created to be. On her search she revealed that there are very few camps with this kind of program. In fact, there is absolutely nothing like this in the southern United States.
So, the SPP recognizes the thousands of LGBTQIA (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Question, Intersex, and Allied) youth right here in Texas and across the country who want a camp experience where they can join together as a community of faith. Too many have been turned away or hurt by religion, but we know that youth have many beautiful God-given gifts to share. It's time to celebrate and nurture these gifts.
We are so excited for our third retreat in the Spring of 2012!
